Tegan and Sara - Get Along Screening - Los Angeles CA

My daughter had discovered this amazing band through this book about how to start an all girl band..They had given some tips in the book, and she found one of their names 'Tegan' to be interesting, so she started to youtube them..We were living in TX at the time and were online a lot because there wasn't a whole lot to do..We'd sit right next to each-other on our computers..They caught my ear and my eye, and before I knew it I was sitting online after work and youtubing them by myself...Things had gotten pretty bad for me in TX, all I wanted was OUT..People would use me to try to become some kind of model and I didn't know who to trust anymore, but at the end of the night when people would leave, I had these two amazing women who made me laugh my head off..Their banters were hilarious and they were such a breath of fresh air to me..They were real women who didn't want anything from me..They didn't have a huge lie about who they were and they couldn't talk bad about me behind my back..
I fell in love with their music, I loved everything they had to say..A lot of the songs were about heart break and that was also something I was going through..When you're going through a heartache and you feel rejected, alone and like no one else is ever going to love you again, you find comfort in knowing you're not alone, everyone goes through this in love, only these women made something beautiful out of it.

Lacey and I got all their albums, learned all the words, they inspired her to dust off her guitar she hadn't even tried to play in about a year..

Jump ahead a little over a year and Lacey are now living in LA..We didn't live in Austin, so we never had the music part of TX, but LA..My God..We've met so many amazing musicians here! Tegan and Sara were doing 2 songs at this club called the Avalon here in Hollywood..It was 21 and over, so little Lacey couldn't go..I took one of her CDs just in case I got to meet them and I did!
It was random..I left the club and was standing outside talking to someone and they walked out..I was so excited! I got Lacey's CD signed and gave it to her that night when I got home..
a few days later they announced a screening for their new movie 'Get Along' .They don't act or anything, it was kind of a reality thing they put out with a live concert, their trip to India and them in the US.
Lacey and I go all out for everything we do here..I got her a cute shirt made and got them presents so Lacey could ask them a question and give them gifts..(They did a Q+A at the end of the screening).
Lacey got to meet them when Tegan told her to stand up and show everyone her shirt (they got a kick out of it) and thought it was cute that she was 14, wanted to be a musician and already taller than Sara.; ) (she's not)
It was amazing and yet another magical moment here in LA.

I'm gonna post some pictures and videos from that night because it's late and I don't even know what I'm talking about anymore...I just wanted to blog about this before It lost it's thrill.

Oh and I don't use this site much anymore like I mentioned in previous posts..I've had this journal for so long though so I will still update it every now and again, but check out my

I got video on my youtube too, but this one is better.

(if you wanna just see Lacey she's @ about 9 mins into it.)

Then the meeting I had with them outside the Avalon in Hollywood

I kinda wanna go to the prom with Sara too..Shh, don't tell Lacey. ; )

How much fun!! I love them!!

Ladies of The 80's. Joan Jett, Blondie, & Cyndi Lauper

Moving to LA has been so much fun for my daughter and I...We love music so much and got to see so many amazing bands, but right in time for our move we saw that Joan Jett, Blondie, and Cyndi Lauper were all playing here in LA..Mattel had made a few years back the "ladies of the 80's" collection, so I got them for her for Christmas one year and this was the perfect time to see if we could possibly meet these amazing women and get them signed.

We made up our own Ladies of the 80's tour and sadly it just ended on Friday with Cyndi Lauper at Club Nokia.

First we saw Joan Jett, She actually played in Newport and a festival, we are really big fans of hers..Every-time she would play near us in Texas we would miss it, but we were not going to miss this one..We got there early and made sure we parked ourselves up front and center..I purchased VIP tickets for this event, but it didn't include a meet and greet, I'm still not sure how you go about all that, but I'd like to find out because going, and hoping you get lucky tends to be a bit stressful..We took Lacey's Joan doll in hopes we'd get to meet her and at the end of the show, we did! She not only signed the doll, she was taking guitar picks out of her pockets and giving whatever she had on her to my daughter..My daughter was in tears, this woman who came from the east coast like us, moved to Hollywood around the same time like us and inspires her more than she will ever know was standing right in-front of her.Joan gave us about 4 hugs each..This woman is not only one of the hottest in rock n roll, but she's humble and sweet..I really can't say enough good things about her..I am over the moon impressed with how amazing she was on and off stage, I know for a fact she changed my daughters life forever.

*WE LOVE YOU JOAN!!!*

Next up was Blondi at Club Nokia down town Los Angeles.
We honestly didn't think we were gonna meet Debbie Harry, so we didn't even bring the doll, plus we didn't know how it would hold up since we had never even been to club Nokia..Turns out we should have brought the doll, because who walked out in the VIP area after the show...Debbie Harry..My daughter was wearing a Blondie shirt, so we got that signed. I got really into Blondie when I was around 14, they would play them at the end of every night at this club I went to..She sang some new stuff, but played her older hits too..My camera died on me during the show, so I didn't get many good photos, even though we were front and center for this one too, also with no meet and greet tickets, two legends in a row out of pure luck! I was also floored by Blondie's opening act Nico Vega, it was all around an amazing time.

Last but not least was Cyndi Lauper..We came so prepared for this one..Well, almost, Cyndi didn't come out at the end in the VIP section, I guess we needed meet and greet for this one, but in all honesty, I had no idea how to get my hands on them..We brought the doll and my daughter got all dressed up..I actually went shopping for an outfit while she was at school, I charged my camera, we had the doll and a magazine with us..We were ready! This show was held out Club Nokia too, but they change it around with every show I guess..The pit was filled with seats, so you couldn't get upfront unless you paid more for those tickets, but I thought it would be the same as Blondie..My camera I take to shows didn't get any good photos of her either, but her show was amazing and she seemed like she would have been an amazing person to meet! She had us crying talking about LGBT homeless youth and then she sang True Colors. There was a gay make couple standing in-front of us swaying back and forth holding each-other..My daughter whispered in my ear that it was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen, but it was so sad, because this couple, who was obviously so in love live in a country where in most states are unable to get married and have equal rights..I took this off Cyndi's website http://www.truecolorsfund.org/
We all hear statistics that are shocking, but when I learned that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth make up anywhere between 20% to 40% of all homeless youth, yet only 3% to 5% of the general youth population in this country, I was furious.

As a parent, I cannot understand those who would kick out their kid simply because they are gay or transgender. Your child is a part of you, throwing them out on the street is like ripping out a part of your own soul. That is why the True Colors Fund continues to work to raise awareness about this issue and develop solutions to ending this epidemic.

Everyone—whether straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender—should be allowed to show their true colors, and be accepted and loved for who they are. Every American should be guaranteed equal treatment, at school, at work, in their relationships, in service of their country...and in every part of their lives.

It’s time for us all to join together and say enough is enough. I hope you will stand with us as we continue to move our work forward.
-Cyndi Lauper
We were very sad we didn't get to meet Cyndi because more than anything we wanted to give her a hug, what an amazing artist who uses her celebrity for such a wonderful cause..We went into the show really liking Cyndi Lauper, but we left loving her and I don't think either of us will ever be able to hear that song again without crying.
We love you Cyndi, thanks for the amazing experience and for fighting the good fight!

*warning* My photos of the show aren't very good.

I got a video of She Bop

and some photos of my daughter from the night in the VIP area.

Thank you Joan, Debbi, and Cyndi for the amazing memories I was able to share with my daughter! We had the time of our lives!!

I moved to Hollywood!

After a night on the town being called Anna Nicole Smith ALL night I bumped into Bobby Trendy outside a club in West Hollywood..I was kind of excited! ; )

He called me Anna Nicole without hesitation, he also told me my hair smelled like fresh linens lol.

Hollywood has been so much fun! I'm so glad I finally moved..4 years of being miserable was way too long and for the first time in a very long time I feel like I am living my life and I am loving every minute of it.:) My advice to anyone who's suffering from depression and not happy with where they live is to just take a chance and leave, you only live once. I almost let fear get in my way and leaving my friends was super hard, but I'm happier now and I am so glad I came out here.

Everyone asks me if my daughter likes it here too, and the answer is yes! She LOVES it! Her and I had the most AMAZING Summer ever! She just started high school and has started to make friends..I'm so super happy for her..I just wish I could go to school with her cause I get lonely when she's gone.
I wish I would have/ could have, gone to high school in Hollywood..They let the kids express themselves, she's had blue hair for a few months now and was worried she would have to go back brown, but they don't care and what else is amazing about that school is all the openly gay kids..When I was in school no one was openly gay..She's met one kid who's out and proud and he's made her his friend and now she has people to sit with at lunch..It's a good school too, the classes are a bit different..She has a dance class..Next year she'll be able to get into classes more geared toward music and acting, but right now out of school she
she's been taking guitar lessons from this amazing girl we found on youtube before we even moved out here..This guitar teacher is so talented and Lacey and I kind of adore her...I have a feeling Lacey is going to learn quite a lot from her..She's already improved so much since she started with her. *I'm a proud mommy*

I've wanted to post a blog about our new life for weeks now, but haven't really had any time, so here is a ton of pictures!

Lacey and I got on the Jimmy Kimmel Show.

The crowd was crazy because everyone came out to see the amazing Lady Gaga!

SSMF was pretty awesome too! We met Gavin Rossdale..I always thought he was a pretty man, but after meeting him in person and really SEEING him I now think he's probably one of the most stunning men I've ever seen..Men don't really impress me, but he was really pretty!

We later on in the night trying to get away from the stage ran into bass player Tony Kanal from No Doubt..How random..ND was one of my favorite bands ever and the only CD I listened to while I was pregnant with Lacey was Tragic Kingdom..ND is kind of "our band", so it was really awesome just bumping into him there.

About 10 mins later we ran into CariDee English, winner of America's Next Top Model Cycle 7 and spokesperson for the National Psoriasis Foundation..I am over the moon about this woman..After telling her about my daughters psoriasis she kissed her arms, that's where Lacey has it worst..How amazing is that..Psoriasis is something that Lacey has felt ashamed of her whole life and meeting Caridee made her a little proud..It kicked in when she was a baby right after her bone marrow transplant and it has made life a little difficult for her because people are uneducated about what it is..With a woman life CariDee around, hopefully the world will be a little more aware of this horrible skin condition and not be scared to touch someone with it. I am so happy Lacey got to meet her..It meant more to her than I'm sure Caridee knew.:)

SSMF was wonderful and I can't wait for next year!

Hollywood is so random..You never know who you're gonna bump into or what's gonna happen next..We've been having so much fun! I will update this thing more often now that I actually have a life outside my photography.
